Stafford Divers Farnes 2009

Farne Islands

For the second year running we returned to the Farne Islands for a three day trip again with Farne Island Dive Charters, Skippered by Graeme and crewed by his son Thomas. Graeme’s passion for diving and love of the Farne Islands had not changed and despite the far from perfect weather was determined we would have a good time.

There were 8 of us this year and we remembered absent friends who could not join us by drinking their health during our evening meal. Our accommodation was again The Hemmel where we were made very welcome and given an excellent early breakfast at 07.00.

Saturday

The Hopper – Started with the best and were not disappointed. More seals that any of us had seen before, both on the surface and willing to play with us underwater. Lobsters to die for just sitting on rocks and lots more.

Blue Caps and guess what more seals. They dominated the dive but lots more to see as well.

Sunday

The Propeller of the Chris Christenson was today’s destination. The lads were getting withdrawal systems from metal but the seals still managed to get in on the show. So many Butterfish and even an Octopus.

Slight panic when returning from this dive as the engine refused to start but no lifeboat required and went on to do a second dive on Seal Gut.

Monday

The worst day for weather with fog and swells. Started with Craunstone and even more seals. Last dive on our trip was a repeat of the Propeller. Both dives had an abundance of life including Squat Lobsters, Shrimps, Prawns, Lobsters and much more.

Thanks again Graeme & Thomas all agreed it was a superb weekends diving and time spent with the seals should be prescribed on the NHS. It removes all the stress.
